In collaboration with FSY Architects, our team was selected to design a new performing arts auditorium, modernize existing Building E that includes a multi-purpose room currently used as the drama classroom, and reconfigure an adjacent parking lot.
The auditorium building will occupy a prominent site on the Saugus High School campus, and will therefore serve as the primary view as one approaches the school. The design team is maximizing this location by creating a façade that will visually connect to the rest of the campus and provide a strong sense of identity for the campus as a whole.
The program for the auditorium includes 450-seat capacity, public lobby, ticket booth, dressing rooms, restrooms, scene shop, equipment storage and drama classroom. In the existing Building E, ceilings, floors, and lighting will be replaced, and wall panels will be added as needed to meet acoustic and tackable surface needs. The current stage extension will be removed and replaced with a smaller version, more appropriate for awards ceremonies and large meetings. A small countertop, sink, and cabinets will be added for use as a serving surface.
The team’s use of Building Information Modeling lends to a collaborative process during the design phase, and will allow the general contractor to hit the ground running once the construction bid is awarded.
