University of Puget Sound Campus Development Plan

Tacoma, Washington

University of Puget Sound

The University of Puget Sound is shaping its academic future with innovative teaching methods that enrich student learning. The new Campus Development Plan (CDP) strengthens face-to-face learning while enhancing the student experience. Additionally, the university is committed to amplifying underrepresented voices and advancing its campus carbon neutrality goals.

To develop the plan, NAC engaged directly with over 50 university departments and more than 20 student affinity groups. Student discussions focused on fostering a stronger sense of belonging and inclusion.

Rather than prioritizing expansion, the final CDP emphasizes optimizing existing campus facilities to meet evolving academic, residential, and community needs. It strategically supports recruitment, retention, and revenue while enhancing student services and campus engagement. A key initiative was relocating the Center for Inclusive Excellence to a central, historic, and symbolically significant location.

NAC continues to support the university in implementing early outcomes of the plan, including a consolidated Student Success Center, residence hall upgrades that strengthen campus life, and the design of a new conference center.
